Thailand Mourns Death of Its King
Thousands gathered in Bangkok on Friday to grieve for King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who had been the world’s longest-reigning monarch until his death on Thursday.
Bangkok - 14 October 2016//SOUNDBITE: (Thai) Sayan Gidganjaradwong, 51:“I’m very heartbroken and sad. All of the people, all of the Thais would have these feelings just like mine. He was a good person. I have given my services to the King’s events in the past with a few things, so it was necessary for me to be here. I want to be here and I am happy, even if I have been here since the early morning.”//SOUNDBITE: (Thai) Nantiya Thaiboonrueng, 52: ”(Crying) I feel like it was a good chance for me to see him for the final time. I won’t ever forget this, I feel like all Thais would feel the same way as me. The King was like a father, it feels like my father has passed away. I can’t really explain it. But it is from my heart. Nonetheless, I had to be here to send him off.”// SOUNDBITE: (Thai) Kijima Mualim, 20:“I am happy that I was born in a generation of his rule. I love the King.”
