Cruz Rebukes Obama on Guantánamo Policy
The Republican candidate Ted Cruz criticized President Obama for “releasing dangerous terrorists” from the Guantánamo Bay prison and vowed to keep it open.
1. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Ted Cruz, (R) Presidential Candidate“Listen on Gitmo (Guantanamo Bay), this president, what he is doing is profoundly irresponsible. He is releasing dangerous terrorists. I think he wants to close Gitmo before he leaves which I think makes no sense whatsoever. These terrorists are returning to the theater of battle. I don’t know how you look in the eyes of a mom or dad who lost their son or daughter trying to capture these terrorists in the first place after you turn around and release them. And we’re going to have to send more of our sons and daughters to capture them or kill them because they’ve once again returned to waging jihad against America. In my view, not only should we close Gitmo, but we ought to expand it. I’d like to see as many terrorists as possible take up permanent residence in Gitmo.”
