Kim Driscoll, the mayor of Salem, Mass., won a three-way Democratic primary for lieutenant governor, defeating State Senator Eric Lesser and State Representative Tami Gouveia. Driscoll benefited from a remarkable $1.2 million in spending by a super PAC called Leadership for Mass.

Andrea Campbell, a former Boston councilwoman, won the Democratic nomination for Massachusetts attorney general over Shannon Liss-Riordan, a labor lawyer. Campbell could be the first Black woman elected to a statewide office in Massachusetts.

Maura Healey, who was a college basketball captain at Harvard and played on a professional team overseas, has often used discussion of sports in her campaigns. In her Twitter bio, she describes herself as, among other things, a “baller.”

In Massachusetts, with the Democratic primary for governor effectively set, the drama for Democrats is lower down the ballot, with competitive races for attorney general, lieutenant governor and possibly secretary of state.
